The PDF Printing Quickset enables you to apply mostly any ELP rules to PDF files which are printed through a Windows PCL5 driver where the characters cannot be searched afterwards. As W-ELP does not OCR any graphical data stream the principle solution for that is:

The PDF file should not be rasterized through a Windows driver using e.g. Adobe Acrobat but send directly to the W-ELP activated print queue. The W-ELP printing process does recognize the PDF file format and will analyze and print it through the build-in functions.

The first steps of using the Quickset are as follows:

  1. Generate a new queue:
Name it WELP_PDF2PCL and share it under the same name. Use any PCL 5 driver, color or black/white. stethos recommends using the Ricoh PCL5c driver. For the port use the NUL one. Some OS might also allow COM1: or COM2: etc. Note it is very important, that this port is NOT used by any other Windows Queue!
  2. Activate that new queue in the W-ELP Control Center Install tab.
  3. Make sure you have now minimum 2 Queues activated, the WELP_PDF2PCL named queue and the queue receiving the PDF files.
  4. It is recommended to set for testing both Queues to NOT delete printed jobs. Queue – Settings – Enhanced-tab.
  5. Open the both queues to see what is printed (Print Jobs).
  6. Install please the freeware tool: PDF-XChange Editor.

Minimum requirement: Windows PowerShell 5
