Input Paper tray mapping or changes

ELP provides three methods for paper tray selections. All methods can be triggered using the general rules handling. Even if EXIT or INIFILE key is used, ELP will always take the definition from the ini file, where the usage was activated.

  1. Using the printer handling ELP_Command key every printed page can be drawn from a specific paper tray. Just use the command generator of PPAdmin, select the copy number than the page number and finally the paper tray number.
  2. Using the SEARCH_BINARY and REPLACE_BINARY keys, but then you need to know something about PCL commands
  3. The TrayMap method:

This method is more often used to globally change all paper drawn out of tray X to Tray Y. In order to teach ELP follow this implementation steps:

3.1. Add to any triggered section (GLOBAL = always) the key TrayMap. As argument enter any new section name.

3.2. Add this new section to the Ini-file. Add rule/section button and enter the new section name in the user field.

3.3. Add to this section the Tray# key of the escape sequence your application uses, and which needs to be changed to another tray PCL - Printer Command Language sequence number. Please have a look in the technical reference manuals form the printer manufacturers. Another method is maybe using your windows text processor to set the paper path and print to file. Then look for the sequence Esc&l#H, where # is the paper tray number ELP is using or needs to be changed.

TRAYMAP=TRAYMAPSection

[TRAYMAPSection]

; tray#=$ # is the original HP tray escape sequence
; $ is the new HP tray escape sequence number or any other text/sequence
; This example switches tray 2 and 3
; LJ 4200 Tray 2 Esc&l1H -> Esc&l5H

tray1=5

; LJ 4200 Tray 3 Esc&l5H -> Esc&n6WdPlain

tray5=\x1B&n6WdPlain

Tipp:

  • This function can be also used to apply certain functionality to paper trays. For example apply a special form to all pages, drawn out of a special paper tray.
  • Sometimes, e.g. for some Ricoh devices, you need to add to the tray number an media type. In that case the tray number may remain the same:

    tray30=\x1B)s-985Z\x1B&l30H\x1B&n6WdPlain

    To avoid a recursive handling the sequence Esc)s-985Z needs to be added!

Example: Depending upon the paper tray used, print specific forms on every page

Output Paper tray mapping or changes

ELP provides three methods for stacker tray selections. All methods can be triggered using the general rules handling. Even if EXIT or INIFILE key is used, ELP will always take the definition form the ini file, where the usage was activated.

  2. Using the SEARCH_BINARY and REPLACE_BINARY keys, but then you need to know something about PCL commands
  3. OutTrayMap method:

This method is more often used to globally change all paper send to OutTray X to tray Y. In order to teach ELP follow this implementation steps:

3.1. Add to any triggered section (GLOBAL = always) the key OutTrayMap. As the argument enter any new section name

3.2. Add this new section to the Ini-file. Add rule/section button and enter the new section name in the user field.

3.3. Add to this section the OutTray# key of the escape sequence your application uses, and which needs to be changed to another tray PCL - Printer Command Languagesequence number. Please have a look in the technical reference manuals form the printer manufacturers. Another method is maybe using your windows text processor to set the paper path and print to file. Then look for the sequence Esc&l#G, where # is the paper tray number ELP is using or needs to be changed.

Tipp: If the key [Out]Tray# is missing in the selection list in PPAdmin. Then open the keydata[.de] | [es] etc. for your language and add the key.
